Welcome to my blog!

I am Lei, and I just started blogging. Let me tell you about myself.

I (am) used to be a geek. A cool one. I took up Molecular Biology and Biotechnology because it sounded nice. And I wanted to wear a biohazard suit to work. They don't wear biohazard suits pala. Wrong motive. After my bloody thesis on the mitochondrial DNA of an obscure fish, I realized it's not for me. I decided to become a physician instead.

Four years into medical school and one year short of graduating,  I took a break and found myself working with a community development NGO in Palawan run by a Christian doctor. That experience made a huge impact in my life, and I knew I would be back to serve. True enough, I got a scholarship during my internship that allowed me to be a barrio doctor. Guess where I was assigned? Smack right in the middle of the sea :) Palawan!

It was every adventurous doctor's dream. The place is breathtaking but the boat rides were notoriously cruel. Because I was the only doctor, I had to treat everyone in my best capacity. Most patients didn't have the money to go to the hospital in the next island, 3-4 hours away. There was even a time when I had to read a surgery textbook before doing a procedure. Good heavens, I would have referred that kid to a hand orthopedic surgeon back in PGH. What I lacked in my skills, the Lord supplied with grace.

Fast forward. I am now a plain housewife to Arvin and a full time mommy to my precious Caleb. Hwhhatt?  A stay-at-home mom? You heard it right. Some say that my decision is anti-climactic. I think otherwise. The thing is, I only pursue things that I am completely passionate about.

And while I am on hiatus with my medical career, don't you want to know what goes inside the mind of a crazy doctor mom? Many doctor moms are too busy to blog anyway.

But hey, full-time moms like me are super busy people too. And I only write when I am inspired, when Caleb is asleep, and when the chores are done. Inspire me more! Let me know what you want to hear :)

Thanks for dropping by!

Lei

  1. Goodluck on being a stay at home, full time mom! I am one as well and I'd love to read more about your new journey as a mother. It is always inspiring to read other stay at home mom's experiences. It kinda make me feel I am not alone in the chaos of diaper changes, running a household and being a good wife and mother.

  3. Hi! I do admire you for your courage in embracing motherhood! I do believe it is the best decision a mother could ever do. I am a teacher who is currently on maternity leave I have decided to become a full time mom after I finish this school year. Becoming a hands-on mom is my priority but earning extra income is also important. So can you write something about how to earn extra income while being a stay at home mom. Thanks!

  11. Hi, Dr. Lei! Thanks for sharing your inspiring story. I admire your courage and I wish I will be able to leave my job and be a full time mom soon.

I hope to read more about why we should consider shifting to cloth diapers. Aside from cost savings, I am interested to learn more about its benefits. Actually i am quite uncertain about the idea.

I guess I entered the contest to "test" it and see if my daughter will actually wear it.

I am new at blogging too :-) juliadominiq@blogspot.com

    Thanks and God bless!

  13. Hi Dr. Lei! Like you, I'm an MD turned SAHM! Hehehe! Also, I blog :)

Found your blog through Chronicles of a Nursing Mom and I'm hooked! Love your mish-mash posts of just about anything. I especially found your post on renewing the PRC license very useful as mine expired this year ;-)

Anyway, just keep on writing whatever you want! No need to pigeonhole yourself on baby topics. That, coming from a blogger who writes just about anything, hehe!

Janice, nice seeing you here! Hey, I was inspired by you, but changed the look because I am so novice I fount the format too complex. Haha!

  17. Hi, Dr. Lei! Chronicles of a Nursing Mom led me to your site.

Under the theme of green living, perhaps you could give the lowdown on disposable diapers/baby products (e.g., composition, human and environmental effects of their use, and assessments of biodegradability claims). [Although parang pang-academic paper na ata masyado, no? Hehe.] In line, you might want to write about and help promote eco-conscious products for feminine hygiene/care (e.g., cloth menstrual pads) as well.

I opted to become a work-at-home mom shortly after giving birth to my precious little miss last year, so other moms’ dynamic stories about their decision to focus (indefinitely) on being a WAHM or SAHM/homemaker, about their experiences as such, and about eventually transitioning back to full-time work also pique my interest.

Good lck with your business. [Those wooden toys you’re selling are adorable!] Cheers!

  18. Thanks Cathy! :) I value your suggestion, I think hindi naman pang-academic paper. It's good to be informed on our choices and I agree with you, there should be a review. Transitioning to full-time work is something I am not an expert on -- (not just yet! and I doubt if any mom would claim to be onem haha! :).. Don't we all enjoy each other's stories? :) Thanks for your kind words, and thanks for dropping by! (yup, the toys ARE adorable!).
